Aldi Food Store

  • A brand new food store, providing Aldi’s range of high quality, award-winning products.
  • Up to 40 new jobs with the UK’s highest paying supermarket, as well as employment opportunities during construction and through the supply chain.
  • Supporting UK farmers and growers.
  • Reducing the need for customers to travel to stores further afield.
  • Free customer parking, including designated blue badge spaces, parent and child bays and electric vehicle charging points.
  • Ample cycle parking, with good connectivity to the wider area for cyclists and pedestrians.
  • Sustainability measures built into the proposals with the latest technology to tackle the climate crisis.
  • New, additional landscaping – improving the site’s appearance and biodiversity.

Sensitive design

The height of the building has been designed to limit the visual impact on neighbours as much as possible.

Materials will be chosen to be in-keeping with the character of the local area.

Sympathetic Landscaping

Aldi’s proposals include a comprehensive approach to landscaping. This includes maximising greenery around the site and – where possible – planting new trees.

Complementing local shops and services

Rye does not currently have a large, mainstream supermarket. An Aldi store in the town will help to draw more regular shoppers from the surrounding area.

Aldi does not stock convenience goods such as tobacco and does not offer in-store facilities such as a post office, pharmacy, delicatessen, bakery or financial products. A new Aldi food store will therefore support the local economy by encouraging ‘linked trips’ to small and independent businesses in the town centre.
